About the Tianwen-1 Mission
Tianwen-1, which translates to “Questions to Heaven,” is China’s first independent interplanetary mission. It was a remarkably ambitious project, making China only the second nation (after the USA) to successfully land and operate a rover on Mars for an extended period.
The mission consisted of three main components:
- An orbiter to study the planet from above.
- A lander to deliver the rover to the surface.
- The Zhurong rover to explore the Martian landscape. 🚀
Launched in July 2020, Tianwen-1 successfully entered Mars’ orbit in February 2021, with the Zhurong rover landing in May 2021.
